About
The project aims to establish a framework and guidelines for verification and validation (V&V) of machine learning (ML) for space applications at the European Space Agency (ESA) by:
- Establishing a V&V plan and recommendations for ML in space applications.
- Designing a software framework for comprehensive V&V in different space-related use cases of ML.
- Implementing tailored V&V process in three different use cases, including satellite telemetry anomaly detection, vision-based navigation, and earth observation.
We believe that our activity will be an important step toward extending the current ECSS Machine Learning Handbook and establishing an industry-wide standard for V&V of machine learning algorithms in space applications.
Research project done in collaboration between KP Labs, Airbus Defence and Space, and European Space Technology Centre (ESTEC). Funded by grant no. ESA 4000146900/25/NL/KK "Verification and Validation Methods for Machine Learning".
